Adding a Bathroom Adding a second bathroom is no longer a privilege - many families or offices today are finding that they need a an extra one. The addition of a second bathroom will usually increase the overall value by at least the cost of the work involved, as well as adding to the comfort.
Inner space Adding a room to a house as it stands normally involves providing access from a hall or corridor. This is usually done by branching off the main hall or dividing off part of an existing room for this purpose. In the case of adding on a bathroom it might be convenient to approach it directly through a bedroom - en-suite bathroom. Here no other landing would be needed. Or, if the new bathroom must serve two bedrooms it might be considered adding the new bathroom by providing two doors - provided that both lock. Outer space In bungalows it might be difficult to find enough circulation space to provide suitable access to a new bathroom - extension. In the average two-storey house, a new bathroom would normally be most convenient at first floor level. Most single-storey erections have flat roofs, which means that their joist work will be too week to support the extra load on top. Or if the single storey building has a pitched roof, the roof structure needs to be changed completely.
Drains and plumbing Bathrooms must be connected to drains and plumbing. Sanitary fittings must be connected to a soil stack which is 100 mm (4in) diameter vertical pipe leading to an underground drain at an inspection chamber - known as manhole. The gradient of the drain should be neither too steep or to shallow, otherwise blockages might occur. Where conventional waste connection is not possible - an electric waste pump can be install - such as Saniflo - http://www.saniflo.com that can serve a new shower - bath tube - toilet and basin. Ventilation is also required. See video clips with our works here
