{"id":757,"date":"2012-06-17T13:59:07","date_gmt":"2012-06-17T13:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robuild.co.uk\/painters_decorators\/?p=757"},"modified":"2012-06-17T14:18:05","modified_gmt":"2012-06-17T14:18:05","slug":"stripping-old-wallpaper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robuild.co.uk\/painters_decorators\/stripping-old-wallpaper\/","title":{"rendered":"Stripping Old Wallpaper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Never hang new coverings over existing wallpaper &#8211; the old may lift and bring the new with it. <\/p>\n<p>Ordinary wallpaper:<br \/>\n\u2022 use hot water with washing-up liquid or proprietary wallpaper stripper to soak the surface<br \/>\n\u2022 scrape off old paper in strips with broadbladed scraper, re-soaking stubborn areas; wash surface down to remove bits <\/p>\n<p>Washable or painted wallpaper:<br \/>\n\u2022 always score surface coating with serrated scraper before soaking and scraping \u2022 for large areas a steam stripper (from hire shops) is a real time-saver <\/p>\n<p>Vinyl wallcovering:<br \/>\n\u2022 lift corner of vinyl coating at skirting board level and peel away from backing paper by pulling steadily up and away<br \/>\n\u2022 then soak and scrape off backing paper <\/p>\n<p>WHERE TO START <\/p>\n<p>Room with a chimney breast: start at its centre and work outward to each end of the chimney wall, then on down the two side walls towards the door.
