Replacing the wiring If your house was build before the mid 1960s , the electric cables are not safe anymore. The wiring have started to deteriorate and cables - wires might be exposed . If you overload the electrical system there is the possibility that the copper conductors becoming hot and a fire might be the result. Replacing the wiring - rewiring Do not overload the circuit The maximum loading for a ring circuit is about 7 kW ( 7000 watts ) At 10 kW the cartridge fuse in the mains - fuse box will blow - if the fuse system uses wire it will not blow until 14 kW is being used. If blown fuses due to overloading are a recurring problem, cut down the load or have an additional ring circuit installed. Appliance Failure If an appliance fails to work when switched on, check the other equipment on the circuit is working. If it does, the most likely cause is a blown fuse in the plug.
If all the lights or sockets on a circuit are dead, then the most likely problem is a blown fuse in the consumer unit. You may have overloaded the electrical circuit, or there may be a fault at one of the outlet points. If the circuit wasn뭪 overloaded you should switch off all the appliances and lights - repair the fuse or reset the RCD if you have one installed. House Electrical System Failure If the whole electricity system fails, check with your neighbours. If the problem is not isolated only to your property - it is very likely that there is a power cut in your area. Light Bulbs Failure If an ordinary tungsten filament fails to light when switched on , check the other lights on the electrical circuit. If the problem is an isolated one - it is very licley that you need to replace the bulb - spot light - transformer. Blown fuse When a fault develops in a piece equipment, it is the plug fuse that blows first.
