Zinc coated steel roofing Zinc coated steel roofing also called corrugated iron shares the functional advantages and sometimes the ugliness of its fibre equivalent but can easily and effectively provide a roof on buildings. Its advantage is strength, and whereas it might dent it does not shatter like asbestos cement sheeting. Even when denied a periodic coating of paint, its life can exceed twenty- five years. Admittedly rust will eventually break through the zinc coated surface , especially at coastal locations where salt laden breezes hasten damage to ferrous metals. But whereas zinc coated steel roof last well, aesthetically they are not attractive. Furthermore, their performance in respect of thermal insulation - the ability to retain warmth in the winter and to resist solar gain in the summer , is negligible. As a roofing material, corrugated steel sheeting is better suited for sheds rather than house roofing. See video clips with our works here
