Noisy neighbours or traffic noises can be reduced by sound proofing the walls and the floor. Underlay is required when installing our flooring on a suspended floor, or in an upstairs apartment using the floating floor method. It has very good sound proofing properties, and can hugely reduce the noise passed through to the floor below. It will also help to level out any minor discrepancies in un even floorboards.Noise from neighbouring flats, either over or under yours, can be quite a problem. Old buildings often have no insulation or sound proofing in the walls, floors or ceilings.
